London (8 June, 2022) French skipper Pauline Courtois and her Match in Pink by Normandie Elite Team win the Normandie Match Cup, the first stage of the Women’s World Match Racing Tour.
The four day event took place in Le Havre, France and was hosted by the Ligue de Voile de Normandie. Due to the weather conditions and lack of wind on the first day, the race committee had to cancel all flights and with 7 international female teams competing on the Women’s World Match Racing Tour, they completed the flights of the Round Robins and return phase of the qualifying early the next morning. Pauline Courtois and her Match in Pink by Normandy Elite Team, the local team at the event dominated the first day being the only ones to win all of their matches.
Pauline Courtois won the quarter-finals and directly qualified into the semi-finals, where she met with Swedish skipper Sanna Mattson. Meanwhile Margot Vennin raced against Sophie Otter. Pauline Courtois and her Match in Pink by Normandie Elite Team went on to win the semi-finals against Sanna Mattson whilst Margot Vennin won the race against Sophie Otter and so secured an all French final between the two teams.
On the final day of racing, Pauline Courtois and her Match in Pink by Normandie Elite team won the Normandie Match Cup, the first stage of the Women’s World Match Racing Tour and directly qualified to the World Championship which is due to take place in November this year in Auckland, New Zealand.
French skipper Margot Vennin and her Match Moiselles crew secured 2nd place overall whilst Swedish skipper Sanna Mattsson and her Swedish Women’s WMRT finished in 3rd place securing a podium position ahead of British skipper Sophie Otter and her team Otter Racing winning 4th place overall. As for the rest of the rankings, British skipper Octavia Owen is “Queen of the Castle” in 5th place followed by Lucie Gout in 6th place and the New Zealand Skipper Megan Thomson and her team taking 7th place.
