Le Havre (17 May 2024) Light winds graced the opening race day of the 2024 Normandy Match Cup in the Port of Le Havre in Northern France. The Normandy Match Cup event is the third stage of the 2024 Women’s World Match Racing Tour featuring seven all-female teams from five countries.

Principal Race Officer Anne Malledant from France started the double round-robin qualifying stage in a light southerly 5-6 knot breeze off the Le Havre beach.

After pushing through the first five flights of the schedule, racing was abandoned in the third match of the flight due to a big windshift which killed the breeze for the day.

“It was a great opening day here in Le Havre” commented Malledant, “we have three more days of racing and with seven teams, I am confident we will get through the full schedule including the double round robin.”

New Zealand’s Megan Thomson and her 2.0 Racing team, fresh from competing at the Congressional Cup in Long Beach and the Porto Montenegro Match Race, finished the first day with 3 wins from four races, matched by local match racer Kenza Coutard also on 3 wins.

Defending Normandy Match Cup champion and former Women’s World Match Racing Tour champion Pauline Courtois, sailing with her Match in Pink Normandy team, sailed just three races posting two wins.
Racing continues Saturday at 10am CET (Central European Time)
